Yesterday, on March 15th, the Tucker PAL Center re-opened to great excitement at the Elwyn Institute, 4040 Ludlow Street.

While Police Athletic League (PAL) Centers have operated citywide after their formation in 1947, Tucker PAL remains unique. It partners one Philadelphia Police Department Officer from the PAL unit with one from the University of Pennsylvania Police Department.

Tucker PAL opened in 1997. “University City had problems with crime,” explained Maureen Rush, Vice President of Penn Police. “As a result, we developed the University City District (UCD). The Penn Police Department endowed a PAL Center named in honor of former Police Commissioner Kevin Tucker. John Fry,” Rush continued, “the Executive Vice President of Fundraising at the time got us a nice endowment for PAL.”

Tucker PAL Center operated at the former Wilson School site until the University of the Sciences purchased the property two years ago.
